The Devon Preparatory School engaged the Stuart Team to help reimagine an underutilized parking area into an outdoor classroom area as well as a lovely corridor for students to travel to different buildings throughout the school day. The underutilized parking lot rested between the Chapel, the newly designed discovery lab, additional classrooms, and the gymnasium; a key space for all passing through.
The team met regularly with the School’s Headmaster, Head Priest, and the Director to discuss initial design concepts. The selected concept respected the history of the school while bringing in modern lines to connect students to their destinations. The design team oversaw the construction process in order to preserve any existing features on site that help pay homage to the school’s extensive history.
Upon completion, the space was transformed into a multi-use, garden-inspired outdoor area, where visitors, students, and teachers can collaborate for educational and communal activities.
