patco franklin square station

CLIENT: PATCO | DRPA

TYPE: Transit Oriented Development / Recreation

LOCATION: Philadelphia, PA

STATUS: Completed Spring 2025

The Stuart Team, alongside Burns Engineering and Sowinski Sullivan Architects, reimagined the abandoned Franklin Square PATCO station into a new transportation hub that reconnects the Philadelphia and Camden regions. The new PATCO Station head house greets its new riders with a custom american bluestone and granite plaza enhanced with inground linear lighting features that guide people into the headhouse. A native planting palette and tree plantings ground the new entrance and create wayfinding for visitors. The design team also wanted to connect the plaza to the original fabric of the Franklin Square Park through a brick walk connection that compliments the existing Franklin Square pathways. The glass wrapped architecture is warmed by a green roof and a vertical vine trellis structure.
